Fellow Brothers,

Organizers

The Organizers

September is upon us and you know what that means.... football is back. Lots of things going on, make sure you check the website for all the different events. If you have time to give to any of the events, please don’t hesitate to volunteer. God has given everybody different talents, make sure you use them, so they don’t go to waste.

Helpers

The Helpers

Last month a few Knights and spouses got together and worked on necklaces for the Kid Food Basket. They were fun to make and everyone who participated had a blast. These were sold at the Burning Foot Beer Festival at Pere Marquette. We made about 250 of them in the hour we worked. They were to be sold for $5, so we helped them raise about $1250 for the KFB. A big thank you to Barb Langlois, Pam Dewall and Sandy Gowin for organizing this and Angel from the KFB. Also, thanks to all who helped out.

Harry and Larry Allore

The Twins

One other significant event took place last month. There was a big 80th birthday for the twins. Most of you know these two, now known as TWIN 1 and TWIN 2. Happy birthday boys and many more for Harry and Larry Allore. Please check out the news from our Building association President below. Many events coming soon to the hall.

The Irish Fest will be the weekend of September 12th through the 15th . On Sunday, Sept. 15th there will be a 9:00 am Mass. The Knights from our Council have been Ushers for the last several years. If you plan to go to the Mass, please come a bit early and let them know you can help. It entails helping people find seats and taking up the collection. We need many to help out. The Irish Fest is also looking to volunteers to help during the festival. Please go to the Michigan Irish Festival website (www.michiganirish.org), click the Volunteer button and follow the directions.

Upcoming Events:

St Francis Usher Schedule for Sunday’s 11:00 AM Masses:

  • September 8th
  • September 29th
  • October 20th

Add these dates to your calendar and try to arrive about 20 minutes early to 11 am Mass. It helps to be a little early so we know if we have the six ushers for Mass. Also, we need help handing out bulletins, taking the offertory basket to the vault and straightening up the pews at the end of Mass. If you are going to this Mass, please help out.

Joke/Thoughts of the Month

Importance of Walking/Exercising

Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $4,000 per month.

My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we have no idea where the hell he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing...

I joined a health club last year, spent about 250 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently, you have to go there!

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.
