Council Meeting
Thursday, April 11, 2019, 7:00 PM

Fellow Brother Knights,

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Matt Carlton and I will be stepping in as Grand Knight, as John has some health issues to deal with at this time. Please pray for John and a speedy recovery from these issues. John has been a great asset to the Knights of Columbus and his presence will be missed. It is my honor to step in and assist this great organization and work with the great people of this community. It does take a community to have a successful organization and we need to add people to our community that supports our organization. I would like to thank the people that do volunteer in every capacity at the Knights of Columbus 706, you truly make this a great place. I would also like to encourage people to volunteer for events that support our goals: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. I have made some small flyers that I will place on a couple of the tables that contain different events that could use volunteers, so if you have an opportunity to give back please do so. And once again thank you to all of you that already give your talents.

We will be donating an AED, Automated External Defibrillator, to St. Francis de Sales through the volunteer efforts of the Knights of Columbus. This is a great success story for the church and the council. Thanks to all that made this possible and keep it up. We are looking to hold more fundraisers for AED’s at other churches in town. Please stay tuned for these events and either volunteer to help or support them with financial gifts. The Knights will be supporting St. Francis de Sales during the Easter season with providing assistance for the Easter Vigil lunch and at the reception after the Vigil Mass on April 20th. We need volunteers.

We will be holding a First Degree at Knights of Columbus 706 on May 2nd, so if you know of any men that are interested in becoming a Knight contact any officer. Applications are located at the hall.

Support the Tootsie Roll Drive at St. Francis de Sales and Our Lady of Grace on April 27 and 28th with a donation and volunteer to help after each Mass. You can make a donation to K of C Council 706. Please add Tootsie Roll Drive in the memo line.

Mark your calendars, I know summer gets busy, but you won’t want to miss the Annual Beer Tent, it will be July 27th at the meeting place of the Knights of Columbus with West Side Soul Surfers. This will be our third annual beer tent fundraiser. In the past, we have helped MCC and the Kids Food Basket with the proceeds. We will need many volunteers. Last year we raised over $2000 to help support local charities.

Be sure to join us for the Friday Fish Frys during Lent, the best fish fry in town. There are three more during the Lenten season and many other great meals throughout the month of April. The weather is improving, so get out of the house and join us for great food and fellowship.

The council meeting is on April 11th at 7 pm, we would love to see you there.

If you would like to help with any events, please feel free to contact me at 231-740-4651.

Joke of the month:

"Pardon me, sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. What's your name?"

"Morris Feinberg," he replied.

"Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?"

"For about 60 years."

"60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"

"I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews, and the Muslims. I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop. I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults and to love their fellow man. I pray that politicians tell us the truth and put the interests of the people ahead of their own interests. And finally, I pray that everyone will be happy".

"How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?"

"Like I'm talking to a Brick wall!"
