Brother Knights of #706,
It is May already and we had our spring clean-up Saturday at the club. Thanks to all who came out and helped. It looks great! We will be planning another clean-up in the future for items that need attention inside the club.
I want to thank all the volunteers who helped with the Tootsie Roll drive at St. Francis de Sales and Our Lady of Grace. We raised over $1,600 this year.
On April 19th we had a first degree. We had 9 new members and transfers. Please welcome the following to 706. David Cereska, Kirk Antekeier, Thomas Shatney, Brian Varricchio, RobertKuharcvicz, Steven Maus, Thomas Dawson, Rod Siegel and Rob Vanderleest. This puts us 27 new members this year. Great job everyone!
The Tejchma family had the most fish dinners with 437 dinners and the Kordecki team served 365 fish dinners. So I heard the Kordecki team is holding another fish fry on May 18th to try and beat theTejchma family record. The game is on!!! They are trying to beat the Tejchma record of 437 dinners. So tell everyone to come that night to help break the record. As a further incentive there will be entertainment after dinner, how about a little Karaoke. You don’t have to sing for your supper, but maybe listen to some of the singers afterward. It should be a fun time.
Last month we had a steak fry at the hall. A huge THANK YOU to those who help put this on: Jeff Zaloga, Bill Hicks, Jimmy Tejchma and girlfriend Sue, Tim & Jamie Kordecki, Greg Gust, Amy Brewer, Kay Bocian, and Sandy Gowin. If you missed it, you missed another great dinner.
We had another Kid’s Food Basket event on Saturday April 21st at 9:00am. We bagged over 1,300 bags of trail mix, over 123 pounds. A big thanks to Barb Langlois and Sandi Gowin for organizing it, and the 16 volunteers who helped, GREAT JOB! Barb has a sign-up sheet in the entrance way if you are interested in helping at the Kids Food Basket during the week. She has a couple of times blocked off for us. The Kids Food Basket of Muskegon currently services five area schools. They are able to send 940 sack suppers home with kids so they don’t go hungry.
We can make a difference in a child’s life. There are volunteer opportunities at the Kids Food Basket: working the packing line, food prep, making sandwiches, cutting veggies, etc. Your time commitment is only one hour! Yes only one hour. The KC involvement of men and women would be awesome. The KFB would like to grow their numbers. They having a waiting list of schools to get in the program. It takes volunteers like us! Remember Charity is our number one principle.
We are having our second annual Beer Tent date July 28th so mark your calendar!!!
We still have about 60 Knights who have not paid their dues!!! Please mail or drop off at the club.
In May we will be voting on new council members. We have some openings, so if you are interested in being part of the council please let me know or show up for the meeting and put your name in the hat.
We are always looking for people to volunteer for fund raisers held at the club. If interested in helping out please contact (Patrick Galla at 231-670-7392) and I will be happy to get you involved in one of our events.
Please check our website for all the events we are having, too many to name! Just one I will mention is our Appreciation Dinner on May 12th so mark your calendars. As usual the food will be great! Please sign up at the Hall, forms are at the bar.
Add these date to your home calendar and try to arrive about 20 minutes early to Mass. It won’t hurt you to be a little early.
We have added 36 new members or transfers in 2016-2017 year. Great job everyone!! This year’s goal is 29 new members and 10 new insurance members.

If you are not getting emails from the council, we need your email address. Please contact Pat Galla at (231) 670-7392 or myself at (231) 670-3469 to get on the email list. We do print a few copies and have them at the hall, although the preferred method is electronic. Plus it saves us money.
“Senior” Thursday morning golf started April 26th. We meet at Eagle Island Golf Course at 10 a.m. for one more week. Starting May 10th at 9:00 am until further notice. It’s a fun time, not real serious, it’s hard to be serious at our age.
Follow us on Facebook and get event reminders through your Facebook page. Search for KC706 when you are logged-into Facebook and click on the “Like” button when you are on the Knights of Columbus Dan M. Kennedy Council 706 page. You will then see everything that is posted to our Facebook page.

Joke of the month:
It’s An Honest Mistake
A social worker from Ohio who was recently transferred to the mountains of North Georgia, was on the first tour of his new territory when he came upon the tiniest cabin he had ever seen in his life. Intrigued, he went up and knocked on the door.
“Anybody home?” he asked. “Yep,” came a kid’s voice through the door.
“Is your father there?” asked the social worker.
“Pa? Nope, he left before Ma came in,” said the kid.
“Well, is your mother there?” persisted the social worker.
“‘Ma? Nope, she left just before I got here,” said the kid.
“But what,” protested the social worker, “are you never together as a family?”
”Sure, but not here,” said the kid through the door. “This is the outhouse.”
